What would a World Without Adults look like? What are adults needed for? And why do adults need children?

The multi-award-winning playwright Laura Ruohonen has written a new play for Unga Teatern. During the development process, she interviewed more than one hundred children. What would children change about the world if they were the ones in charge?

Two wildly enthusiastic professors have developed a method that transforms children into fully grown adults in a single second. But do children really want to grow up instantly? When the plan goes disastrously wrong, the child rebels’ secret world is revealed—a grown-up-free zone where wild animals run amok, candy is eaten by the kilo, stuffed animals come to life, and dogs train adults who have fallen into the coffee trap. But there is also a mysterious dark corner lurking within.

Laura Ruohonen’s vibrant and insightful fantasy play explores the power struggle between children and adults in a funny, surprising, and moving way. Bursting with energy, linguistic fireworks, rebellion, and heart, it ultimately asks the question: why do adults and children need one another?

It pays to be a child when it’s time to be one—so you won’t regret it later!

Laura Ruohonen is known for her children’s poetry, her successful family musicals, and the TV series Yökyöpelit. A World Without Adults is the first collaboration between Laura Ruohonen and Unga Teatern.
